About the Role
As the Communications & Storytelling Volunteer, you will help amplify the voices of individuals impacted by the justice system by capturing and sharing powerful stories of reentry, resilience, and transformation. Your work will help Greater Love Outreach (GLO) Phoenix build community, inspire action, and secure critical support.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Interviews with GLO participants, volunteers, and community partners (with appropriate consent) to capture meaningful personal stories.
- Develop Impact-Driven Content: Write compelling blogs, social media posts, donor spotlights, and newsletter entries that reflect GLO’s mission and values.
- Identify Story Opportunities: collaborate with staff and other volunteers to uncover and prioritize storytelling opportunities that inspire awareness and action.
- Ensure Ethical Storytelling: Practice trauma-informed, respectful storytelling that upholds dignity, privacy, and participant agency.
- Support Brand Voice: Contribute to refining and maintaining GLO Phoenix’s brand tone and message consistency across platforms.
- Edit and Proofread: Assist with light editing of written materials, ensuring clarity, grammar, and emotional resonance.
- Attend Monthly Check-ins: Participate in regular virtual meetings to share updates, brainstorm content ideas, and align on communication priorities.
- Maintain Confidentiality: Follow all program guidelines, including those related to participant consent, privacy, and ethical communications.
Requirements
This volunteer role requires a commitment of 2-4 hours per month.
Empathetic Interviewing: Ability to listen actively and compassionately while gathering personal stories—especially from individuals with lived experience in the justice system.
Compelling Writing: Skill in crafting clear, engaging, and emotionally resonant stories for blogs, newsletters, social media, and donor communications.
Trauma-Informed Communication: Understanding of how to tell stories ethically and respectfully, prioritizing participant dignity, consent, and emotional safety.
Collaboration & Adaptability: Willingness to work with staff, volunteers, and community members in a flexible, mission-driven environment.
Attention to Detail: Strong editing, proofreading, and fact-checking abilities to ensure high-quality, accurate storytelling.
