About the Role

The Grant Writer/Research Assistant will help secure critical funding by identifying grant opportunities, assisting with proposal writing, and supporting the development of persuasive applications that align with GLO Phoenix’s mission.

Grant Research & Prospecting
Identify grant opportunities aligned with GLO Phoenix’s mission using online databases, newsletters, and funder directories.
Compile and maintain a list of potential funders, including deadlines, focus areas, and eligibility requirements.
Monitor grant cycles and flag upcoming deadlines or new opportunities for the team.
Proposal Development
Draft key sections of grant proposals, including need statements, program descriptions, and organizational background.
Collaborate with the Communications & Outreach Lead to refine language and align narratives with funder priorities.
Assist in preparing grant budgets and gathering supporting documentation (e.g., IRS letter, Board list, program stats).
Documentation & Organization
Help maintain a centralized library of past proposals, templates, and reusable content (e.g., mission language, bios, metrics).
Ensure that submission checklists and requirements are completed accurately and on time.
Track submission dates, follow-up deadlines, and report requirements in shared tools (e.g., Google Sheets or Airtable).
Cross-Team Collaboration
Meet weekly or biweekly with program staff to gather updated program data, participant stories, and impact outcomes.
Coordinate with the Intake, Outreach, or Communications teams to align proposals with on-the-ground needs and narratives.
Attend virtual check-ins or volunteer meetings to stay up-to-date with organizational priorities and funding needs.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Review final drafts for consistency, clarity, and alignment with guidelines before submission.
Ensure grant language reflects the values of dignity, empowerment, and inclusion central to GLO’s work.
Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards when handling sensitive participant information or internal documents.

Requirements

This volunteer role requires a commitment of 3–5 hours per week. It may require weekly or biweekly meetings with the leadership, especially during active grant periods, as well as attending monthly volunteer meetings or check-ins.

  • Strong Writing & Storytelling Skills: Craft compelling, clear, and mission-aligned narratives that resonate with funders.

  • Research & Analytical Skills: Identify funding opportunities and analyze eligibility, trends, and requirements.

  • Attention to Detail: Precision in editing, formatting, and ensuring compliance with grant guidelines and deadlines.

  • Organizational & Time Management Skills: Track multiple deadlines, manage documents, and maintain proposal libraries.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Work across teams, gather information, and incorporate feedback into proposals effectively.
